Sonnet V (homage to Séamus Heaney)

For this painting, I took inspiration from the poetry of Irish Nobel Prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney. As is his wont, in his poem "Clearances" he finds the poetry and beauty in his boyhood memory of mother/son intimacy in sharing the ordinary, everyday things, this time the simple ritual of folding sheets.
